Sleep apnoea screening

Obstructive sleep apnoea affects 1 billion people worldwide (50% middle age men). There is a two fold increased risk if overweight (body mass index more than 25), and a four fold increase risk in obese individuals (body mass index more than 30).

Obstructive sleep apnoea triggers an inflammatory response in the body, causing inflammation of the lining of blood vessels and therefore increases risk of heart disease and stroke. It is associated with depression, diabetes, relationship problems, fatigue and an increase accident risk (relevant in safety critical workers).

Sleep questionnaires without objective testing could not be used in the occupational health setting and it is too costly to refer a high proportion of the workforce to a sleep specialist.

We offer sleep apnoea screening to limit costly referrals to sleep centres and limit time off work for train drivers especially. Screening is done with a wrist sensor oximeter in the comfort of the employee's home, following some screening questions.

This service is aimed for occupational health services, who are able to provide in-house sleep apnoea screening in the rail and safety critical industries.

How it works:

We supply the wrist sensor oximeters, with a bluetooth connected smartphone to employees (these are medical grade devices, unlike consumer devices). We provide training for the occupational health nurse. A refundable deposit is paid for the devices and phone. We send the report to the occupational health nurse by email, with the screening protocol. An example report is shown below:
